What does being healthy mean to YOU?

What does being healthy mean to YOU?

I am super excited today. This is officially my first blog post. I have not tried this yet, so I feel a bit like a fish-out-of-water! But I am sure I will eventually get the hang of “blogging”… at least I hope so.

We all have different opinions and definitions of what it means to be healthy. I have always been a pretty healthy person, at least for most of my life. I have never had major health problems and it has never been something I thought about a lot until my health was hugely impacted in 2017.

When I completely lost my vision in my right eye and went completely blind, trust me that definitely “opened” up my eyes to what it means to be healthy — no pun intended here 🙂 My body wasn’t just trying to tell me that it was struggling BUT it was shouting at me!! I never appreciated what a person with blindness or impaired vision struggled with and go through on a daily basis. I struggled to judge “depth”. I fell quite a few times stepping off the sidewalk or down the stairs. Make up was another struggle. I couldn’t put make up on properly on my left eye and a few times I just opted for no make up at all… going “natural” took on a completely new meaning for me during that time.

For the first time I realised what a gift sight was. Luckily my vision returned almost back to normal but it took almost 6 months. This was the scariest time of my life… it raised questions like: What if I never get my vision back? How will this impact my daily life? Will I even be able to do my job? At the time I was a programmer and I spent 8-10 hours a day in front of my PC and I was worried that I would not even be able to do my job any more.

Even going through this major storm in my life I knew that God was leading me down another path. And making that decision to change my career in 2018 and to become a health coach, was the BEST decision I could have ever made. I now feel healthier than ever and I am grateful for my restored health!

So, what does healthy mean to you? Take a few minutes right now and think about it.

Being healthy looks different for each person. So, for me it means to feel well: physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and socially. Feeling my best in every single area of my life!
